About course
Agricultural engineering deals with the science and technology of producing food grains. The discipline applies engineering science and technology to agricultural production and processing. Agricultural engineering combines the disciplines of animal biology, plant biology and mechanical, civil, electrical and chemical engineering principles with the knowledge of agriculture principles. The basic areas and activities which constitute the discipline are design of agricultural machinery, equipment and agricultural structures, agricultural resource management, surveying and land profiling, climatology and atmospheric science, soil management and conservation including erosion and erosion control, seeding, tillage. Harvesting and processing of crops, livestock production, and waste management to name a few. In India, this department was initiated by Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Kharagpur in the year 1952 on the recommendation of the Dhar Committee.

After completing a B Tech/BE you can opt for M Tech/MS in various specializations such as Farm Machinery & Soil and Water Conservation, dairy and Food Engineering, Applied Botany, and Post Harvest Engineering.
Job profiles
You will be performing tasks such as planning, supervising and managing irrigation, drainage, water control systems, perform environmental impact assessments and agricultural product processing.
You can also work in food processing, food machinery, packaging, ingredient manufacturing, pharmaceutical companies, processing technology, and health-care firms.
